Validation of Foreign Studies and Degrees

General procedure for the validation or recognition of foreign studies and degrees in Chile.

There are currently two ways of validating foreign studies and degrees:

  • Through the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (content in Spanish): validation and recognition of degrees awarded by countries signatories of a Cultural Agreement with Chile, such as Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Uruguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. The procedure is achieved online by the Department of Recognition and Registration of Academic Degrees of MINREL.
  • Through the University of Chile (content in Spanish): validation and recognition of degrees awarded by other countries.

For further information, visit the website of the Chilean Ministry of Education (content in Spanish).

Legalization and apostille of Chilean degrees

There are two different options to legalize Chilean degrees and obtain their validation abroad:

  • Through the Chilean Ministry of Education: If the country where the degree has to be validated is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (content in Spanish), the certificate only needs to bear the apostille of the Chilean Ministry of Education.
  • Through the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MINEDUC and the Consulate of the foreign country where the degree has to be validated: If the country does not belong to the Hague Apostille Convention, the diploma has to be legalized by the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREL) (content in Spanish) and at the Consulate of the country you will travel to.
