EMBO representatives visit the Catholic University and hold a workshop for PhD students in Biology.

Abril 10, 2019

As part of a visit to the UC campus, two researchers from the European Molecular Biology Organization, better known as EMBO, gave a Writing Workshop dedicated to students of the Doctorate in Science program with a mention in Molecular Biology.

The activity was intended to provide advice and clearing doubts about the writing of a scientific publication. The workshop entitled: Writing a Scientific Paper, was delivered by Dr. Karen Dumstrei, Senior Editor of EMBO Journal, who has more than 12 years of experience in reviewing scientific texts. The workshop also had the participation of Dr. Jonathan Howard of the Gulbenkian Institute of Portugal.

Both researchers traveled to our country as part of a delegation representing the European organization. “I have been traveling and meeting many students, giving workshops like this one and talking with scientists to know the context of the country,” says Dr. Dumstrei.

For his part, Dr. Howard emphasizes the importance of addressing issues of interest to young researchers. “Writing a paper is just one example of the problems faced by young scientists, the idea is to do this as quickly and easily as possible. So, we try to simplify the process, as much as possible, and we try to help them to take better decisions”.

More than 25 students enrolled in the activity that addressed issues related to scientific writing such as the importance of publishing, sections of a manuscript, different parts of a paper and the editorial process, among others.
